Founded in 2023, Nambawan Spain SLU is a commercial spin-off of Nomad Bioscience GmbH, a globally recognized pioneer in plant molecular farming. We hold an exclusive commercial license for sweet and taste-modifying proteins, including Thaumatin II and Brazzein, for food and feed markets worldwide.
Most ingredient companies spend years building toward a supply chain. We started with one. A decade of completed R&D, established regulatory frameworks, and agricultural infrastructure already in the ground in Extremadura, Spain. We didn't set out to invent a new category — we set out to bring the right one to market.

Nambawan (or namba wan) is a Tok Pisin term originating from Papua New Guinea, meaning "number one," "best," "excellent," or "first-rate."

Eliminating the impossible choice
For too long, food and beverage manufacturers have faced an uncomfortable trade-off: artificial sweeteners that work but consumers reject, or natural sweeteners that consumers want but that are expensive, inconsistent, and hard to formulate.
Our mission is to eliminate that trade-off. Through plant bio-factories, we produce the world's most potent sweetener proteins, enabling manufacturers to formulate products that are naturally sweet, clean-label, cost-competitive, and built to scale. The next generation of natural sweeteners shouldn't require a compromise, and our flagship product, Thaûma™ proves it.
